Belamy Playhouse
4'W x 4'L x 6'H Playhouse Kit

Item #: 276546 Model: 276546

Thanks--The item and model numbers are the same above--is that correct?

Oh, ahahha. I didn't even notice that. Yes, that is correct. I just did a cut and paste from the web site, so that is what they have listed.
Wait a sec-let me the check the box instead........

Hmmm. The box doesn't have that item number but the box sku number is 75 257 80 100

The manufacturer is Solowave designs. And their model number on the box is 280100.

The item number on the web site is perhaps a Lowe's number (?)

I think the Wheaten roosters are just the most stunning things ever, but I wanted the darkest eggs I could get. Why? No good reason, just whimsy, perhaps.

Now that I have the copper black birds, I am surprised by just how beautiful I find those shiny black feathers with the iridescent green sheen to them, not to mention the burnished copper glints. Pretty, pretty birds!

Well on their way, no. Being shown, yes. The Marans Chicken Club is actually getting serious about APA recognition. Members of that club are now -- last week or next week, I forget which, for starters -- showing birds as one of the steps towards that recognition.

Hmmm, could this be why this thread is such a great place to be?

Drom, that is exactly where I am too, except for the showing part. I am serious about the breed, Im still educating myself, always will be, and I dont know what quality birds I have yet, really. I only learned about lineage AFTER I got my first birds and had Black Copper Eggs in the Bator! I dont think Ill do any showing, although I have gone to poultry shows for years. I was really bummed when they stopped most of them for so long. We've gone to rabbit shows off and on too!
Oh, I understood Marans were not yet accepted by the APA, but they are well on their way?? When are they going to start being shown, or are they already??

As to culling, I too am a weenie, I have to rehome...I try friends and family for pet homes first, roosters are harder to place. I never have a hard time with the hens. Then, off to the Swap Meet. I take a loss, and just give them away.... but thats the way I chose to do it. Now that theres a Craiglist, I'll try that too.

Mostly I want pretty eggs though....I will focus on that. Perhaps later, if you have to cull for show birds, but your lines have nice dark eggs, just are not typey enough, you let me know...they can be in my dark egg flock!! We can work it out! I may have the perfect show specimen, but it may not have that egg color I want, I can hook you up!!

Sounds like a good plan.

With regard to the showing, that is a good question. They are showing both eggs and birds. Perhaps they are doing it in a non-rated division or something?
What was the show that Dave Williams and Bee (don't know her last name) placed in? Weren't they at the Ohio National or something?? It was eggs that were judged. But also, if you go to the Photo album of Richard's Birds on the Marans chicken club, he has pictures of birds being shown.
Bev Davis just listed the requirements for getting the breed recognized by the APA just recently. Basically the birds have to be shown for 5 years before they can be officially recognized. And, she listed the numbers of birds and varieties that have to be shown.

Oh yeah, two separate issues! So you have to show so many times for APA recognition, thats what we're supposed to work on! And then, only certain varieties of the breed will meet the standard, wont they...what a quandary....will the American Standard be the English clean legged variety, or will the American Standard be the French Feather legged variety.....hmm. I havent been able to keep up on the sites as much, so I better pay attention, and all the National shows are all coming up too. I'm going to Stockton in January, I was wondering if Marans were going to be represented there? I cant make the Ventura show this month, rats. I hope theres an egg show this year at the Stockton show though!! I wish I could afford to just travel all the time. When I got my Poultry Press, it made me want a plane to fly to all the shows across the states!
Thanks for clearing up the show thing.

So Whats she on!! When are we due!! Whoo Hoo! She's a beauty, too. I cant wait to see the fluffy babies! Do Marans go Broody very often? I wouldnt mind that at all, never thought of it. I do have the broodiest Brown Cornish in the world, she can hatch golf balls. Thanks for the pic!
Tina

she's on a little of everything, white (junk) silkie, about four of her dark eggs, an egg from a barred and bearded easter egger I just got. I think there might be a mottled cochin split to mille fleur cochin in there. Here is a pic I took today of about half the eggs.
