I gotta see the mottled cochin split to mille fleur cochin, you know I want that child!! I mean chicken!!! It needs to be part of my Frizzle Mille Fleur D'Uccle breeding program, it does!! I really really want eggs from that pair. When you get serious about them, I want to get some...to see what happens if I mix them with my frizzle Mille Fleur D'Uccle Rooster? That is gonna be one cute chick!!
Do you have a pic of your barred and bearded easter egger?? That sounds neat too? I go nuts over Marans, then my next favorite are the mixes, then my pure breds. Ah, I just love chickens!
Those eggs are lovely! When should they hatch?

I just put them under her yesterday, so it will be a while. The EE egg got added today, along with another silkie egg. Here is a pic of the bearded barred EE. I just LOVE her!

Oh yes, those are the CUTEST!!!! And EE is beautiful, she needs twins!!
Hmmm, let me see, what do I need to do in Riverside in the near future? I could find some reason to do personal service (paper process serving) at some prison in the area, I think, isnt there one around there? Or I could volunteer to fly down, oh, but they wont let me take the babies back on the plane, will they, scratch that....Ummmm, thats a long drive from Chico, too, or I would catch the Ventura National poultry show also! Oh well, maybe when you get enough eggs, you could mail me a couple, pllleeeasssseee????? I'll pay you a teeny tiny fortune for them. Really teeny. Really tiny. But I'll pay you! I really want some

I just posted this stupid story about what I did in the Social Section:

"I try to re-use things at home, so when we took the top of my deck down, I used the boards in my chicken house as a roost. I left a couple of large cup hooks on it, because they were handy for putting things on when I'm out there....I didnt think it was any big deal???
Tonight, I had already laid down for the night, when I decided to go out and do one more check of the coops out in the pet area, and to look in the brooder at the 2 new chickies my Dark Cornish insisted on hatching yesterday.....I was pretty surprised to see my one and only Black Copper Marans Rooster hanging by his leg, his zip tied ankle was caught on the Cup Hook!! He was very calm, and let me lift him off the hook and settle him on the shelf...he doesnt seem injured, except maybe his pride, but I'll check him over in the morning....
I used the zip ties to mark everyone who had been dusted and wormed for fall....but I may need another method! And now I think I'm pretty stupid for leaving the cup hook on the board, where a chicken may get hurt! It's like having little children around all over again, they get into and onto everything!! How can I keep them all safe?? Who would think a cup hook on a board would be such an issue. Thanks for listening, I felt pretty bad seeing him there, and it was a fluke I even went back out tonight, you know?"
Can you believe it??

And Nerfy, that had to hurt, like a person having a 12 pound baby!! OUCH!!

Hi, mind another question? I was looking over the Maran breeders list on the yahoo group site. Only some of them say whether they've got clean or feather feet.

I'm leaning toward Black Copper or Blue Copper clean feet. Any suggestions of good people - including those here still growing them out - for next year.? Wheatens are gorgeous but not seemingly as available or popular.

Tipsy those eggs are quite handsome.

Hmmm. I don't know about the Blue Copper-Bev Davis' line is feather shank.
I would post the question on the Marans_Breeders_Of_America yahoo group. There are breeders in that group that have bred clean legged Black Copper lines for sure and would know if anyone has a clean-legged Blue Copper line.

My black coppers are from parents that are hens from Valentine Hatchery and Red Dirt Ranch, the Rooster is from Wade Jeane lines. They are clean legged.

I do not plan to use them for show lines, they are my first group of Marans, and I am getting more select lineage, but these are going to be part of my dark egg laying stock.

Chere, those are the colors I'm leaning towards myself. I also *prefer* clean legs, but I will probably get feathered legs because the standard is being written for feathered legs and I have promised to participate in showing birds in the next coupla years.

I think Bev has both clean and feather legs, depending on the color, but I can't remember for sure. If you decide to go with feather legs, maybe we could talk about going in on an order together some time.
