KellyH, those eggs looks great. I am by no means an expert. Id say a 5 maybe 6. They look great. I think it is hard to tell in pictures. What kind of Marans do you have?

They're not from my hens. They're only "my" eggs b/c I bought them. I was just curious what grade they would be in case I sell any of the chicks and someone wants to know.

ETA: They're black coppers and I have cuckoo chicks coming tomorrow.

For anyone in KY or central TN --

TOMORROW (October 11) there will be a large poultry show in Brownsville KY. This is the "Green River Poultry Show". There are more than 600 entries. There will be roughly 38 Marans included in the show.

Okay, I got LOTS of pics at the show. 28 marans showed up, some of them VERY pretty.

Overall winner of the breed was a LOVELY big blue wheaten hen bred by Bev Davis.

And take a look at my new sig!! I came home with two little wheaten pullets. Hoorah! They are one generation removed from Ron Presley's birds. I don't know if they will ever be show worthy -- they were both some of the smallest birds from that clutch -- but I'll enjoy seeing what egg color they produce in any case.

Now who is going to have the next Marans in a show??
