Yipee! You finally got your Marans-good choice! Lucky to be able to get started birds from a good line like that.

Can't wait to see the pictures. I need to start going up to these shows I guess.

If anyone does take Marans to any shows -- make sure to talk about it on the Marans Chicken Club yahoogroup. There is special paperwork to fill out so that the APA will count your show birds towards APA recognition, AND if you talk about it on that list you can probably encourage a larger group of people to bring birds!

I'll post the show pics in the next day or two. Stay Tuned!

Are you waiting for those pretty dark red eggs to hatch? What kind are they?

We have two shows coming up in California. Ventura is on the 26th of this month but that is too soon for mine and I guess the entries are closed anyway. Stockton however, is in January and it's apparently a big show. I'll have one pullet that I can probably take. Maybe even a cockerel as well, but they are much less certain.

The pullet in the back near the brick wall is turning out to be nice and has the sweetest temperament. If I show any of mine she would be the one I think.

I'll be at the show too, I look forward to seeing some of the other Marans at the show! I cant wait to see your pullet in person! Is there going to be an egg show in Stockton? That would be so great!! I would love to get some new stock too, I dont imagine they sell those eggs though! I hadnt even thought of checking to see if anyone from the Marans clubs was bringing birds to sell to Stockton? They may have decent started birds for Breeding stock they could bring along?? What do you think, is it worth putting out there?? (Varieties besides Black Copper and Cuckoo) I have been so out of touch, and time is rushing by, I better get busy! Here I was thinking about getting a silkie at the show, and my PRIORITY is the Marans!

We'll be home tomorrow, I'll see how things went when I was gone, and we have more predator proofing and prevention we're doing (sound, lights, cameras, the works)

Drom, I love your birds! I hope they do well in the show, I look forward to seeing them if you show them at Stockton! See ya there!

It is DEFINITELY worth it! Make sure you post about it on the Marans Chicken Club list --

The more communication we can get about participating in these shows, the better!

Oh, btw -- at the show today we had black coppers, blue coppers, wheatens, blue wheatens, and cuckoos. Ummmm.....I don't think I'm leaving any out. There were three blacks entered, but they didn't come. No straight blue, I don't think.....

Okay, color me jealous! I wanted to go but it was just too long a drive! Truth be told I've been looking at the golden cuckoos over and over. Though I'll avoid Julie's, I think that is the way I'd like to tend. Those and the Black Coppers really appeal to me.

Though yeah, Amazondoc, those wheaten Marans are something. Glad you got babies. Now you're ahead of me!

Thanks Tina! You know, I am wondering if you have to show a trio. I know nothing about showing poultry really, so I went to the APA site as well as the club site that is hosting the Ventura and Stockton shows and I don't see anything on experimental breed divisions or non-rated divisions. But it sounds like dual purpose, standard breeds require a trio to register? I am assuming the Marans would fall under dual purpose, standard.
I'm going to have to do some research here-I'm not real clear on this yet.
It would be good for me if I could go to a couple little shows first .
Oh, well. Maybe I will post some questions at the Yahoo club forum.
