Those little Wheatens are so cute they should be illegal. That is just too much cute. You should be sited and fined for keeping them Jennifer.

I believe our eggs that we hatched are F1. We have plenty of diversity and proven lines, which I would think it qite safe to cross your hens on your roos that you have hatched. If you rotate your roos and they produce well for you, you shouldn't have to outcross your lines again for a few years.

Hey All,

I am starting to really like golden cuckoos. A lot. Anyone working with them?

are you talking about the one on top? I was not so sure of that one because it is so dark on the back, but the spot was kind of blurred

so I guess we will see.

I'm in the same boat. It's been very hard to find them. I will be getting chicks in the spring, but they are clean legged. I just hatched some feather legged regular cuckoos so I can get a breeding program to add the feather legs. I know Mergmet said she was working on them, but not sure if she will be selling eggs or chicks.

I love the Golden Cuckoos, and I have some eggs coming from a BYC friend when they start laying - I was so happy just to have the birds in my flock - as eye candy - I never thought to see if they were feather legged or promotable. Leave it to me to check the lines after the fact, AGAIN! But I'm still waiting for my serious Marans from Bev, so the rest are my pets/egg layers to share/learning curve?
I'll check it out, it wont matter to me, but if I get something good, I can share the love

You know, gold for everyone!!

I have been trying to find out how to the golden cuckoo was developed, and haven't been able to figure it out. I think it is by crossing a BC with a cuckoo, but I have no idea where to go from that. I would love to know. I asked on the Marans board but didn't really get an answer that would help me try to make a line of my own.

Does anyone have any info on this color?

I don't think golden cuckoo is much different from a watered down crele, which is just barred/cuckoo over a non-black bird if I remember right. Kev knows. PM him and report back to us!

My huge barnyard cuckoo pullet dropped an egg, her first, right in front of me this morning!!!! She is clueless though and was standing on the perch. The egg of course fell and has a crack but I got a picture and will post it later. Small but it seems pretty dark!

I am still looking to add some goldens though.

Hahaha Birch Run! That's pretty funny!

Drom, thanks for your sweet comment. Wheatens are so pretty, of any breed. I've got a couple dozen blue wheaten/wheaten Ameraucana in the incubator cooking away. I dropped on today candling, splat to the floor, just like Birch Run's cuckoo.

Onthespot, when you say non-black, what do you mean?
