Here's my favorite pullet. When the rest of the flock is running around she is happy to hang out with me and perch on my knee-she's been doing that since she was just a little fuzz butt

Hey guys --

All you folks who have Marans, remember that we need as many people to participate in APA shows as possible in order to gain APA recognition.

Members of the Marans Chicken Club USA will be participating in at least SEVEN shows (including egg shows) within the next three months alone. If YOU are not involved in a show yet, NOW is the time to get involved.

Check out the MCC show calendar for more info. Just go to http://www.maransusa.org , then click on "Upcoming Shows". We need YOU!

I love all the eggie and chickie pictures!

So today we are moving out 7 Orps, 3 Wellies, 5 Cuckoos, and5 Wheaten Marans and 5 Copper Blacks, to the barn that is. My dh finally decided to help me make a place for them. So 25 chickies less in our house!!!!!!!! Some are almost 7 weeks old. Stinko!

However, that still leaves 16 Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas, 9 Copper Blacks and one Splash Marans.

Dear lord I can't wait to get them out too!

We are finally having a warm snap to transition them.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are getting a chance to relax.

I will relax when my MIL leaves.

whew, what a relief! I have about twenty the same age, and we are having the coldest night of the year last night. I just can't bring myself to transition them from my warm home to "breaking their water in the morning" kind of weather. It is supposed to warm up this week and I can FINALLY get these things out of my house. The silkies just are not wanting to leave from under the brooder light at night and when I raise it up too much they peep and cry and look lost, so I put it back down for them. The EE olive eggers look more hardy and sleep away from the light mostly, but I am SO ready for them to be out!

I hope your babies grow up well! I noticed that my outdoor brooder, with just a heat light but still very chilly, and outdoor coop (converted shed) that houses my now 11 week olds has kept my birds very well during this cold spell, we've even had snow...and this last batch of chicks is by far the heartiest of all of the chicks I have raised! They feather out younger and are thicker than ever! Nature knows what she's doing! These little gals are tough! And they jump out of the brooder I leave open and run outside with the big girls now! They are huge! No babying them! A slow transition to keep em safe, but I think chickens are birds, thats what they have feathers for! Mine want to be outside!! They give me REAL attitude if I dont let them out
