Ninja those are some pretty girls! I love survivor! She is as stubborn as a couple of mine are! Amazing what some of our birds can go through, while others can drop at a nothing? I prefer the tough old birds!

I have one little mix hen that has been here for almost 9 years...ever time something happens, and I think she's a goner...she pops back up later...usually in the rafters of the "barn"...who says chickens are "dumb"?

Denasfarm - Is that blister getting any dryer? You asked if they are bigger in the shell? I have noticed that the Marans I have hatched are larger in the shell than any of my other chicks, and that they just seem to have a harder time in that last pipping stage for me...the turning and stuff...I have tried doing textbook humidity, etc...and have found the one that works best for the Marans was the lower humidity (dry hatch method) until day 18, up it then (55 - 60) and let them go....the shells still seem hard though...I was gonna read more this time about where I saw an old time putting a hole in the top of the egg for air? Sounds odd, but he got huge success rates? And these dark color eggshells are different, more than just in pigmentation, it makes them harder under heat as well. These babies have to be stronger to come out?

I'm off to research before my silver and blue cuckoos are due next week!!

Awesome pics, all these beautiful babies!! I lost my NN's to a heat surge when I was a work last week, and I was due to put bantam cochin frizzles in my LG last night...couldnt bring myself to do it, so I put them next to the turner in the Genesis til I make sure the LG will behave today. I dont want to be heartbroken again when I get home and see that stupid LG at 106 degrees.

Take care folks! Tina/tfpets

Somebody asked about Marans peeps being bigger?

My 5 BCs averaged 42.2 g

9 RIR/BR crosses averaged 41 g.

I'll soon be getting a boatload of Cuckoo Marans eggs so we'll see.

You know what, I have a postal scale right next to my incubator - and I never thought about weighing them! I will do so as they hatch now, thank you! And I keep nearly meticulous daily records of temp/humidity records of each set of eggs....Something new to keep a record of! Tina

I LOVE when the Orp/Marans cross turns out like that colored one. I have a handful of them so far.

If I could get those suckers to breed true (and don't think I won't be trying), I'd just stick with that hybrid forever!
