who layed the olive green eggs? they are awesome...and that is some heavy speckling on that egg...I have a splash something...dont know if maran or orp....has no feathers on the shanks...I want eggs like yours!!!!

Thanks all. I'm actually getting some gray eggs and some pink eggs from my BCM mixes. All the mixes, including the ones that lay the olive eggs are offspring from an EE that lives with the B C Marans. She lays a large light blue/green egg and the father is one of the two BCM roos. It's funny that all of her offspring seem to lay different colored eggs. These are from today:

You know... the spotted egg reminds me of a weird thing my girl's eggs have going on sometimes. Rather than laying a half painted or spotted egg, where part of the egg has the dark coating deposited on it and the other part is just shell, they occasionally lay an egg that has the dark coating but also has a white layer over the dark layer that you can scratch off. For a while I thought the white layer was the base shell until I scratched if off and discovered the egg was dark underneath.
Does anyone get this from their hens? I suppose it is just a thin calcium deposit

I have that happen, too. It makes for great PINK or Rose colored eggs from my Wheaten Marans. One day it may be the cadbury dark, the next it has the "vellum" over it!

Ruth~

Do you know which crosses of birds gave you these egg colors?

I want some really really bad!

The mother is a Blue EE (her mother was Ruth, an EE, and her father was, I think, a Barred Rock) but not really sure on the mother. I just know she is a pretty light blue barred EE that lays a large light blue/green egg. She took to hanging out with the BC Marans when they were all young and freeranging. Once I put the BCMs in a breeder pen she somehow managed to scale the 6 foot fence and get in with them. I put her out and she did the same thing the next day so I let her stay. I started incubating her eggs. All of her offspring have one of the two BCM roos for a daddy but they all look different and they are all laying a different colored egg - so go figure???????

By the way, love your new babies - the teddy bear is too cute.
