#10 and #11 are here with #12 and #13 almost here................but #11.....#11 pipped at the wrong end Friday night. It made pretty good progress by yesterday morning and then stopped. By this morning it has broken the shell open and head and shoulders are out, but is still half way in the large end of the shell. Still curled up like an egg and chirping hear and there. I hope this little one makes it, it has made it this far.

Colors of the chicks hatched

8 blacks
1 blue (dark blue)
1 yellow *edited to correct color*

and colors of the chicks still working on it

#13 is yellow *edited to correct color*

Okay Im curious about something..

Ive had a couple different people(4) tell me that when you incubate black copper marans eggs that you should go a little higher in humidity then you would with other eggs. Is this true? How high/low do you go when incubating BCM eggs? Im using a hovabator 1588 to incubate my eggs in.

I have heard people say from 30 percent to 70 so it looks completely circumstantial. What works for this one person in one area may not for someone else in another. I think from 30 to 50 is good but peoples results differ so much its hard to say one number for sure. Thats my thoughts anyway. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

I just recently hatched out 5 baby black copper marans. After the first one hatched the humidity went really high in my bator. Hours later, I ended up having to crack the lid (Brinsea Mini Advance has no vents) to get the humidity down. Anywhere around 60% and the chicks were active trying to get out of the shell. Above 65% and nothing happened they just sat there and did not zip.

So, to answer your question, I don't think they prefer too high of humidity to hatch. Just my 2 cents worth

How do you like the little mini advance? You know I think they are going to come out with an EX version that has the humidity control next year.

The mini advance is great! But it doesn't have the humidity control, and it is small. When you get several chicks hatching out in it, there is not much room at all. You can see good though.

The incubation period leading up to the hatch is great. The little bator never lost temp at all. It stayed at 99.5 or 99.6 the whole time. Also it has an alarm that goes off when it turns your eggs, so you know it is working. It rolls them.

Great bator, just small and no humidity control.
