I don't know all the reasons behind it -- but there is a thought going around, that BCs with white shanks are the ones carrying wheaten. Dunno if that's true, or not. Also, I believe it's very difficult to have enough melanizing genes to create dark enough plumage and then throw white shanks on top of that. And keep in mind that the French don't *disqualify* BCs with dark shanks -- it's just not their ideal.
If you look at my roo on the BYC web page you can see he has lighter legs..I also have a few with slate legs... I am trying to stick with The APA standards...
Thank you again 3 chickens. That is exactly the color of at least 3 of mine.
I have gotten two very wrong colors from the batches I have hatched out.
I have 1 cuckoo colored, red hackled Roo Lanky and peckish (he's dinner soon)
1 rich brown, red hackled pullet (I like her, won't breed her but it will be interesting to see what her eggs turn out like. She has a very nice body conformation.
I am not sure who their siblings are. But they all come much closer to type.

Actually, that's not quite true. The APA had to approve the basics of the standard before we were allowed to hold our first qualifying meet. Some tweaking may be done before final approval, but the basic framework is already set in place and approved.
Now the only thing the MCC has to do is produce birds to match the standard they themselves had written or can tweak to match, the show in Ill only showed that the Marans aren't standard, if they were they would have been approved. then they planned a show in early 2010 - that was canceled by by MCC- the next show for approval was moved to 2011.

Actually, the qualifying meet in IL showed a lot more than you claim. If you'd like full details, please read the letter posted by Sam Bush (APA VP) which is available on our web site ( http://www.maransusa.org ) and also the article written by Dave Anderson (APA Pres) which has been printed in the current issue of Poultry Press.
And yes, we moved the date for the second qualifying meet. The MCCUSA board listened to the concerns of club members and other interested poultry people, who were worried that they wouldn't be ready for another big show as early as Feruary. I for one am certainly not ashamed that the club's board listened to its constituents.

Interesting posts! I doubt the fellow who wrote post #24 was even there, though, since he stated that we were "well below the 50 birds and 5 breeders needed" even though there were actually **84** birds and about **16** breeders represented.
I'll place my faith in the APA Pres. and VP, thanks. And both of them were actually there at the show, too.
And on that note -- this thread, as stated in the subject line, is "for Posting Pics of Your Eggs, Chicks and Chickens" -- not for stirring up more political nonsense. Could you please try to stick to the intended subject of the thread?
It's very funny that alot of these posts have nothing to do with the title. And since when is the trueth in video political nonsense?, you are very skilled at steering the Marans threads in your direction and when they aren't going your way the thread gets closed or moderated quickly.
