Thank you! I am very glad to know the leg color so that I can work on that.

What I also find interesting is that the pullets have the slate legs. They all came out of the same lines, but the light leg color is only in the Roos. I really need to learn alot more on the genetics side.

I am going to try to figure out how to build a good "trap nest" this winter. Then it will be much easier to know who lays what egg.

I do tend to have my favorite misfit chickens.I am up to 3 now, so I am going to set up a coop just for them. I don't want to have to worry about cross breeding.

So...are we on to eye color for awhile?

Good luck!

Make sure you separate the darkest eggs in the hatcher, so you know who came out of them. That'll give you a head start on the next generation!

I will do that, thank you so much

No, I think you're misunderstanding. It would be both males & females to have the same colour legs.

According to the French site the black & copper black (& presumably though not mentioned) silver black marans have more or less grey legs (I take that to be could be lighter could be darker)

Look at tarses

The French use the names Copper Black & Silver Black rather than using Brown Red & Birchen.

Krys --

I no longer trust the English translation that is provided on the French club site. Is there any way that you could take the time to retranslate the whole standard from the original French? I think it would be a lot of help!

hey does anyone know who bluewaterranch on E-bay is? I just got some FBCM eggs from them an am VERY pleased

they are huge and dark and if this is the end of their laying cycle (for this year) then I suspect they were much darker.

I will take a pic in a few but if they are a BYC member and are around this thread THANK YOU!!!

Cripes. I'll have a go at just the standard. I get by well enough but I'm not fluent.

Sorry Krys. I actually did understand I just was not very clear. All the Marans that I have came out of a few breeders All of my pullets have slate legs. But some of the Roos have the pinkish ones. I would have thought that at least a few pullets would also have pinkish ones. It just makes me curious as to why it was only the Roos who inherited that gene.
