Hi everyone, I just wanted to show off pictures of my babies and ask a few questions. I got my first BCM eggs in Nov and my first three babies hatched on Nov 22, so that makes them about 7 weeks old now. I actually ended up with 1 boy and 2 girls which couldn't have been more perfect. So these are those three:

So then I decided I needed more marans and I found someone locally that advertised some eggs. So I got 18 more eggs and out of the 18 I had 15 hatch out yesterday. So my question is about coloring. I was told that I could have any color from black copper, blue copper or splash. When I first saw them hatched out I thought I had 1 blue and 1 splash and the rest were black but now I can't tell. I'm not really sure how close the blue coloring is to the black when they're this little. So here are my little babies hatched yesterday:

The baby on the far left is the one I believe is splash and then the one next to it is the one I thought was blue.

In this picture the one in the middle is one that I'm sure is black and then the three around it I wasn't sure if they are blue or just a not as black as the others.

By the way, congratulations to everyone just getting their first eggs. I can't wait until I get mine!

Here is some of the blessed babies... We have Welsummers, Blue marans and Black Copper marans.

Emsevers.... I have to agree with your color decisions.. I would definetly call that left one a splash and a roo at that... Big guy...He will be nice to use on blacks for blue birds.

the color should darken once they know / learn how to paint..... congrats on the starting to lay,,,,, your lucky i had to wait 11 months for the wheatens first signs of eggs ....
from the time i started incubating to the time frirst egg...
what i wonder is ...(i think i no the answer ).......
will the parrent still pass to the egg (chick) the same trates (egg color ,feather color, size and shape ) ?
no matter if its the 1st egg she ever layed
or the 50th egg ?
is there any thoughts on the subject ?

Hubby found two more light colored, soft shelled eggs last night. Again, they were crushed. But that should mean that more than one pullet is laying, hopefully all three are.

Yep that little bugger in the first photo of the chicks on the left is a splash, the two in the middle are blues and the last little guy is a black. In your second photo of babies you have three definite blues and the darker one I am going to say looks as though he may end up a dark dark blue like his daddy, time will tell. Yippee!!!!!!!! Grandchicks!!!!!!! LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS that was a good hatch! My Mr. Bill (babydaddy) sure does like his job!

Bless your hearts for driving all the way up here in the nasty dark and rain for those eggs.

. Seems that all of the blue and splash babies coming out of this pen have ended up boys with the exception of one little blue pullet that is going to be staying here with her mommy. She's a sweetheart like her daddy and loves to be loved on.
