In terms of how quickly they have matured, I can't really compare them to anything else since I am new to chickens. I will say though that I was really surprised at how early I was able to sex them. I knew what they were by the beginning of the 2nd week and I always thought it took about a month to be able to tell. I ended up with 3 Pullets and 3 Roos.

I can't tell how much bigger they might be than mine, but yours definitely appear to have feathered out more quickly. Handsome birds! Maybe we can do some egg-swapping next year!

Ours are FINALLY venturing out of the run to range during the day. The door is always open, and they've been outdoors for two or three weeks, now, but they were always too "chicken" to go outside with everyone else, until today!

Yes, that sounds great and keep posting pics of yours.
You are so lucky. I wish so much that I could free range mine! The people who own the property behind me and on one side have dogs and one of them is a notorious chicken-eater.

I have 4 rail ranch fencing and they can just go right under it. I'll have to figure something out.

Drom,
Your rooster is definitely a superb guy! Mine are 10 weeks, and I still look at the one I think is a rooster and ponder. Maybe it could just be a stately female? I am just not certain??? I am never sure. It is larger than the others, and has different feather coloring, and sorta different comb and wattle, but nothing as pronounced as your awesome guy?

Oh, I do understand. I have about 90 chickens out there, and you see how many eggs I got in 2 days??????? Plus, it looks like two feather pillows blew up in the yard. I almost have a panic attack looking for killed birds, but they're all okay, and you cant see any bare spots, they just discretely lose underfeathers here and there when they molt, drop some tail feathers, and I have tons of real young ones that wont be ready to lay til spring. I'm afraid I'll be offering to pay the postage if people will take my eggs.
I sell them here for $2.00 a dozen and never have enough though, so it will be okay, plus my boys can each eat four or more at one sitting....and I have three boys at home...thats so gross!

Thank you!

Well, I say your bird is a Roo for sure! The wattles and copper color totally give him away. But hey, I think maybe you need a new digital camera.

I am really surprised it was 107 where you are today. Believe it or not, it was a full 12 degrees cooler here. It was very hot here earlier this week, but it cooled off a lot fortunately. It should be cooling off where you are tomorrow I would think.

Your Cuckoo eggs are so pretty!

Oh, it was 107 yesterday, it was only 102 today, we are cooling down fast! Tomorrow its supposed to be cooler yet! Come on fall! We're starting to winterize the coops, and get everything set up for the storms to come!
