I bought the chicken pictured below at a Swap. I was told it was a blue Marans pullet. Well, it may be blue, but it has developed a crow, so I know it is a cock. But it is developing a rose comb, and I looked up Marans combs and they are single.

Anyone have an idea of what it might be?

I've been reading "Storeys" again and your bird stands to straight to be a marans. It looks to me to have some "game" bird in it. I have no idea why people lie about their birds. I hope you didn't pay to much for it. I advise anyone who can to buy a copy of "storeys" and keep it in the car. If you haven't named him yet I would call him "history".

I have a young maran roo and he is nothing like yours. He has feathers down the outside of his legs and is not so upright. he is 13 weeks and has a more cockerel shaped body with plumed tail and the beginnings of spurs. He is very handsome.

I agree, if that's his usual stance, he doesn't look like a Marans. Unless he was craning his neck to check out something suspicious! XD

Your bird is mix.He has rose comb,I think feathered legs-why not Marans-Wyandote mix

Thanks, Everyone, for your input. Too bad, he's not female. Then he'd be good for something.

A mixed cock is not a good breeding choice.

I really appreciate all your observations!
