March 2018 Hatch-a-long

WARNING: GRAPHIC PICTURE!!!!
I candled last night, early day 8 I think. Two look like they might not have been fertile I'll give them a few more days. One I have no idea. Air cell on top, bottom 1/3 looks like all the others, the middle is too dark to see anything. The other nine... IMG_20180225_191308687.jpg make that eight, look good..
Notes to self: Eggs really are slippery little buggers and don't candle over a cement floor

the health food store eggs that are on the right, (day 4) are showing signs of being fertile, one of the little white eggs ,may have a blood ring, not pulling any till day 7. I know nothing about these eggs other than the health food store bought them from a farm one hr. away. I do not know how old they were when I put them in incubator, but I am hopeful. I see faint lines and spiderwebs in the ones on the left they came from a friend who lives about 30 min. away. I will check them on Fri.

I looked it up in the "chicken bible" which is hatching & brooding your own chicks, By Gail Damrow, She says let the eggs get cold, don't try and wrap blankets around it because the eggs will go dormant, which is better than developing in the wrong temp. She says 12 hrs. with no power will only delay the hatch, even an 18hr. will be bad on the hatch rate, but still not fully kill the eggs.
