I have just put 14 eggs into the incubator.

DH said to go ahead and set more than I originally intended since they weren't likely to all hatch.

Heh heh heh. I would take full advantage. Did you buy another incubator yet aftet his enthusiasm for your endeavor?

He did express hope that I didn't have to place a chick order for 25 again, because that was a lot to handle at once.

This is a practice batch of mixed-breed birds.

Yes i made it but with help of my father and my friend...and a few ideas we find on google. Not first time i using ...few years ago i was using him and have great hatch rate. But at that time i have had other roosters, this boys now are older one as i said i never ever saw him mating

You may not. Some roosters are very "shy" when it comes to mating. I had one like that I swore there was no way the eggs were fertile, but the hens hatched out 2 dozen babies their first time. There is always hope.

I had 26 this past fall (order of 25 plus an extra), and I really was pushing my limits for dealing with them -- not to mention the cost of feeding them long enough to decide who to sell and then for them to actually sell.

Usually, I do 100 chicks, We pick out what we want to keep for our flock, the ones we will sell, and then rest are raised for food.

I guess I should move over to this HAL, since my hatch dates are 3/6 and 3/8! I set 8 Tolbunt and Candy Corn Polish eggs from a local guy on 2/13 and 13 porcelain d’Uccles and one bantam Cochin on 2/15 that were shipped from about 4 hours away (and took 3 days to get here ). I candled the Polish eggs tonight and all 8 have veins! One looks iffy on making it but still too early to call it a quitter!

The shipped eggs were packaged super well, so I’m hopeful that I get a decent amount to hatch. They were in foam, in a small box, then placed in a bigger box surrounded by padding. Here’s hoping the extra effort pays off. Will try to leave them alone as much as possible…but it’s hard not to want to candle constantly

So, now I have a hen in full broody stance... I might try give her the chicken eggs. So many babies developing
