March 2022 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
My guess is that he is too big and overweight. He just loves eating. He was always a big boy.. yes he calls his girls but then eats too. I have tried putting him on a diet which somewhat worked. But as soon as he was with the girls and there was more feed he ate more than it iwas good for him. I really think I need to invite him for supper.
Yes being overweight will cause fertility issues in most livestock.

I am setting 7 Muscovy eggs later today. They will be due to hatch on March 16th. I also have a bunch more eggs I should be setting this month.

I have Bantam Cochin, Barnyard Mixed, and Large Fowl Brahma. These are all from various sources. All are due to hatch in March if I set them as planned.

I am a bit of a hatching addict. I will be adding eggs at various points to the incubator as the month goes on. So if you are hatching or want to just see what hatches join me.
I’m kinda becoming an addict myself & will also be adding this time 🤣

I just set 12 jumbo Coturnix eggs & have 12 more on the way. Both sets are from different sources. I’m also contemplating a dozen heritage chicken eggs but I’m not sure I’d be able to have them all hatched before I need to start my Easter Eggers for the Easter HAL 🤦‍♀️ I’m still figuring out the details on this staggered hatch. I’m looking into another incubator to use as a Hatcher. If I cannot get another quality incubator prior to lockdown I have a cheap incubator but it doesn’t retain humidity well so I can’t use it as a Hatcher but would it work to move the eggs that aren’t ready for lockdown to it while the others are hatching?

Ack forgot to mention set 1 is due to hatch March 15

Yes, I am a bit addicted. It gives the husband options for gifts. Hatching eggs, critters, yarn, etc

I have updated my egg setting count. I also had to correct my dates

11 Brahma - due March 4
4 Mixed Bantam Cochins - due March 6
12 Jersey Giant - due March 13
3 Muscovy - due March 16
5 Calico Bantam Cochin - due March 16
43 Barnyard Mixes - due March 16

These will be set on Sunday
16 Salmon Faverolles - due March 20
8 Mille Fleur Cochins - due March 20
12 Jersey Giants - due March 20 - These arrived this morning.

I have another 6 Jersey Giants and 12 Calico & Mille Fleur bantam cochin eggs I am waiting on to be shipped or arriving here. Plus I have other eggs that will arrive once the seller is able to send them.

I’m glad I took both your advice. I got 2 externally pipped babies this afternoon. Now the forever wait before they bust from that shell. Slow slow ducklings.
Oh that’s good!! How exciting, make sure you post the cute little ducklings when they fluff up! 😍😍 I would go crazy waiting that long after the external pip 😆 Good luck! ❤️🐣🐣

Thanks & I most definitely will!

Haha I started with hatching ducks & got used to how slow they were. So much so that my first chicken hatch I missed so many hatching lol! Same with my first quail hatch they are SO FAST!

We call the quail hatching popcorn time. When one pops, they all seem to

The hard part waiting. Yes, ducks take a while. The worst are geese. They seem to savor hatching... I have been told peafowl are even worse.

You and me both,. Ducks drive me crazy. I rather let the moms hatch them out.

Thanks & I most definitely will!

Yep chicks are so much faster. seems to be the smaller they are at hatch the faster they want out.
