If I were keeping these I'd call this one "Slowpoke" because she's taking her own sweet time getting out of this egg.

She's still alive -- she peeps if I make a noise in that room.

Here’s my “slow poke“. The third malpositioned chick. She’ll likely need a little more help but she’s not ready for prime time yet!🤣

DH and I talked it over and I have decided that, at least with eggs from my own flock that weren't shipped, I probably will not do assists unless the circumstances are unusual.

It's a hard choice and I have no criticism for anyone who chooses differently, but it's what we agreed to.

Makes sense.😊

This gorgeous creature (15 week old pullet) was a full assist!😊View attachment 3019482
But, she’s also the reason I’m not using her mother for breeding anymore. The girl in the photo was one of many that had huge vaulted skulls even though the mother’s was only slight. Trying to breed away from this. Hopefully will prevent the need to assist much in the future!❤️
This bird is just a real sweetheart and follows me around and comes when I call her, only a few of my chickens do this.
She will also not be used for breeding.😊

Week old babies.

I also did not notice this ones scissor/misformed beak upon hatching. It’s got a pretty nasty whistle (due to a closed off nostril) but it’s eating, drinking & whithin the appropriate weight range. Dunno whether to cull or see if anyone wants a pet duck 🤷‍♀️

Also I added 14 more eggs on the 2nd. Not impressed with my ducks at the moment. Of those 14 only 5 are developing. They are all also moulting & I am only getting an egg here or there at the moment. It’s natural. None the less it’s annoying at this time of year.
