I took food and water to my broodys, too. It seems like they don’t leave the box, but I would come across the massive broody poops in the run, they never actually pooped in the box. The up side I found to doing that was the broody became very tolerant of me petting her, and then trusted me around the chicks and let them eat from my hand.she has 9 eggs under her on day 5 (last night) I took a quick peek at some and some are developing and some I don't think are. But my problem is she isn't going out to eat, drink or poop......I finally carried her out yesterday, then one was pecking her she freaked and ran, another chased her so she flew up and freaked out and caused a commotion then my young roo started to go after her (think where he felt she was causing the issue) so she ran back to her eggs after only getting a couple bites of food. So I brought her food and water on the nest and she ate and drank a ton then I removed it. may have to keep doing that but she is going to have to move off the nest to poop.........
Isn’t it amazing? Nature is awesomeTwo hatched this morning (totaling 6 hatched), including the egg designated Zombie

So cute!Just got my chicks in the brooder. Grandma hatched for me. She threw in a surprise chick (the yellow) the others are australorp roo either australorp or Americana hen. I love the little gray one with the puffy cheeks. Hope it’s a pullet!
my Broody's last year were soooo good! They would puff up and growl but let me do anything. this girl not so much she tries to bite but she has gotten a tad better. LOL I have a camera in my coop (well 2 since I had some laying in spots other than the main nest boxes and couldn't see who so moved my run cam in there as well, then left it so I could see the 2nd next box which is where the broody is) so I can see that she did not leave at all. I had one that would only go every other day so when she didn't go out one day I was ok, the 2nd day made me nervous and tried. I was NOT letting her go a 3rd day. I think where she is in the nest box that is under the poop boards so not a place the others really go I am wondering if that is why she was maybe "attacked" when she went out as even in only 5 days or so she was seen as a stranger. I am temped to move her to the main nest box but not sure she would stay there. But then at least she would be seen by everyone anytime they went in the coop. But everyone else uses those boxes so worry she may get kicked off. the middle box is used by my more docile girls so don't think they would kick her off but may go in to lay with her. LOL then I need to fish out eggs under her each day. Noone goes in the box where she is so it is perfect besides she isn't being seen much by the rest of the flock.I took food and water to my broodys, too. we are pretty much at the same day for the March hatch #2. I have March hatch #1 ready to hatch in 6 days!!!!!!!! Then hatch #2 is under my broody and last night at 8:30ish was day 5, but think they may be a tad behind.Candled my March hatch #2 group last night. They are on day 5 today. 30/40 are fertile and developing!!!My largest group yet. My 1st march hatch got graduated to our brooder out in our workshop/garage. They were getting too big already for my little tote brooder I had set up in the house. Miss hearing their little peeps all day long lol
I did come across other hens laying with her in the box, too. The last two hatches had two extra eggs that she ended up leaving because everyone else had hatched and were ready to get out. It sucked becauae they were developing good, but they stopped before I could get them in the batormy Broody's last year were soooo good! ya I don't move them either. I had good luck last year (one incident that I lost a chick, and one that a chick was separated and injured but she/he healed fine and I didn't even know which one it was after about a week). I did check daily for other eggs. Helped that I had camera's so I could see when someone went in the broody's nest box so I could look. hahaaa. I will have to post a pic of my nest boxes.I did come across other hens laying with her in the box, too. It’s worked out for me so far
