March 2023 hatch-a-long

21 days yesterday, woke up to 1 fluff and 1 hole, I see the beak moving through the hole so thats a good sign. I ordered hatching eggs from fellow board member, and borrowed my mothers incubator. As this incubator has no gauges and no external place to add water I have been very nervous, but we have at least 1 fighter! I have 8 eggss, but shipped. I want at least 2 so they have company. We'll see how many when I get home from work.

Went to bed last night to let the little egg do what it had to do, and absorb it peace. This morning this is what it looks like, definitely took in much much more of the veining, but there is no longer that pulsating... I don't see any movement at all any more.. it might be time to break in there..?

if you see the beak you can try to open the membrane where the beak is but it may be gone if you don't see any movement...... Hopefully not though.

I am sorry. Stinks when that happens but 13 chicks is great!!!!!!! Mine are a week old!!!!!! then I am 1/3 of the way there with my next set of eggs!

I’m still hatching eggs from my “OH, I got this egg let’s through it in the incubator too…there’s room”. I had 3 hatch so far and on is zipping. I hatched another Cochin, hopefully this one makes it. She is a surprise chick. I believe, well I know, that my Cemani decided it would be a good idea to bred with my black Cochin. And though I wanted to do the project with my French Black Maran, this shows that it could be done. This baby came out with black eyes, black beak, black feathery feet, and all black feathers. I haven’t been able to look at the skin color though because it’s still in the incubator. The egg she is by is not hers.

I’m still waiting for the 48 Call ducks to hatch.

I have 3 total chicks in the incubator. I had one more Cochin hatch just like the first one. All black, even the skin. Except with this one the skin by her neck is pink. But the rest of her is black. Then I also have a Pavlovaskaya egg that the chick has piped at the wrong end of the egg. 🤦‍♀️ I’m hoping she figured it out. I had one duck that did that in the last hatch and she didn’t make it. I have one other that is trying to zip. These little guys are popping like popcorn.
