march april and may hatch along

Wow 52 eggs! Ahahah, looking forward to hatch day for you! But about ur eggs, it could be that the air sack is taking up such a big space of the egg, that the chick has no other room to develops but the bottom, but I don't think it will be suck a big problem

Thank you

Will be filling up the incubator a couple more times this year. Hopefully I will get tired of it?

I think you are right about the chick squeezed into one end of the egg. I really hope these two can hatch if indeed there are chicks in there! The air cell is very, very big compared to the other normally developing ones. I tentatively pushed the lighter end downwards and then removed my finger and it "leaped" forward to tip the other way.

The first time I incubated Marans, I had detached air cell problems, but that was because they were shipped. This time they are from my own flock.

I was thinking about getting some duckeggs shipped, to hatch, but I'm not sure if I should, asthe hatch rate is always low? But there as I live in Northern Ireland (UK) there army any hatcheries near by, so I don't know what to do? I don't want to waste my money!

I don't have much experience with shipped eggs...but I had 13 chicken eggs shipped to me. All had weird detached saddle-shaped air cells. I was very happy that 5 hatched

I bought some Dominique eggs from a BYC member that lives near me. Also had some blue eggs so I had about 21 eggs in the incubator.

Most of them hatch this weekend but three of them. I had 4 chicks piped in the wrong side, after a while I helped 3 of them out but one I did not see it until it was too late, it was facing down so I never saw the pip. It died in the shell. the other two eggs just did not pip. Here are the new babies and one of the eggs with the pip on the wrong end.

Hello
I'm new to this group as well as raising chickens. I have 6 silkies (2 are roosters) and have batted around the idea of raising more. Bought an incubator w/egg turner and placed only one egg into it. I did it all wrong too, never waited a full day for it to set, maybe had it operating for 8hrs. Never got the humidity over 30%, it hovered around 26-28%. Temperature was pretty steady at 100F. Five days later i placed 6 more eggs into the incubator and hoped for the best.
This morning I had my first baby chick hatch …yay! I got up at around 0700hrs and noticed a small eye blinking at me out of the pipped hole in the egg. Lay back down, half-zoned out for a hour. At 0811hrs discovered a small little chick wriggling around…****! missed the zip. But I got what looks like a healthy, vibrant little ball of feathers chirping at away.
I love this site. I have been using it for two years now and am amazed at the advice on here. I truly appreciate all the excellent articles and helpful advice.
If anyone has advice on handling or not handling the new-borns I sure could use some. I'm worried I may injure them or pass on some disease.

Here's a picture of the wee-one. Pipped :- March, 29, 2015 @ around 1200hrs
Zipped :- March, 30, 2015 @ around 0755hrs (estimated)

Sorry to hear about the chick that died, how many hatched :)

Well done, keep us updated and try not to handle the chicks until they have fluffed up, and are walking around.

Ok so I have found a person, who i can buy 10 ducklings, of they White chilterns, has anybody ever had these, and he also had 8 geese eggs, which I'm going to buy of him, and he said he would throw in some ducks eggs aswell for me, but here is the problem, I have the 5 duck eggs in on day 5, I'm pretty sure only one is fertile, but I only have one incubator, What do I do, don't geese and ducks take them same length as ducks to hatch so I can put them in together but what do I do about the one duck egg that I think is Fertile, should I put it in with them, and let it it hatch and when it does take it out, or should I put it in the brooder, and mist it? Or should I just take it out and l throw it away?

18 of them hatch, I think 9 Dominique (one bad egg) and the other 9 are EE mixed with BR, EE and American Game ( had three roosters with the girls in the coop). Some of them are gray looking and others are black like the BR.

Here they are, 4 chiltern whites, one mallard and one Rouen I think, I'm not sure. They were swimming in the paddling pool, they were 2 weeks old, not day olds.
