bigchrisb1985: Why not try again! Make notes on anything that may have gone wrong, save those notes, learn from them, research to learn more, & do better next time. I've seen some February hatch-a-long's hatching chicks that did not have good luck when they had tried it the first time & posted in the January hatch-a-long also. So there's hope. Best wishes!

Hey there, all! Well, I candled tonight, and we've got one viable out of the two I took from our own hens/ and from the 8 I got from another BYC member (Hi, Kandace

), 2 are definitely viable (saw embryo moving), 2 questionable (shadow and air cell right size, but did not notice any movement), and 4 clear. DW and DD were right there as we candled...the two DS's fell asleep already, but it was exciting to see!

Finally collected all the eggs I needed to. They are now under the broody.

I removed the golfballs and the I set the eggs in front of her and she tucked them under and settled down to set on them.

This is going to be a long 21 days.

So excited to be hatching! I have eight Blue Copper Maran eggs (which I have found nearly impossible to candle), 8 Blue Ameraucanas and 11 of my own Blue Laced Red Wyandottes. I probably have a few mutts mixed in there as I have a Black Australorp girl whom I cannot distinguish the difference in her eggs from my BLR girls. So a few surprise chicks at least. I started the hatch on 2-19 so they are due to hatch 3-11-2010. I candled them tonight and looks like I have 8 out of 11 definite for the BLR, and 5/8 definite for the Ameraucanas with everyone remaining to be seen, literally This is my second hatch, had a wonderful turnout for my first and hoping this one follows suit.
