how do you tell if there is water in the "ring" of the little giant still air bator? My first time and with the bottom being white I can't tell if there's still water in there are not. I'm afraid to take the egg turner out. I'm on day 8.

Hi all,
I'm sure we've all heard this story before but here goes... I have this Cochin ya know, only bantam in my flock. She went broody last week and was sitting on Cracker Barrel ceramic eggs. Of course it was in the favorite nest so all the other ladies are in an uroar over it. I didn't have the heart to disappoint her so I ordered her some eggs. They came from states close by and the candling didn't show too much trauma so they are due to hatch March 17th. Wish her a lucky hatch...

I always thought the day you set eggs that was day zero and day 1 started 24 hours later.
I set 30 eggs last sunday just candled and I got 24 viable eggs with veins. One clear, 3 blood rings and one not sure. I'm happy since I bought 24 eggs and they provided extras.

I'm hatching eggs using my broody hen Petunia. She has been sitting on them for 2 days now. But the eggs are 4 days old, (the friend we got them from let her broody hen sit on them for a few days). They are due to hatch on March 17th! St. Patrick's day too!
Yay! March Chicken Hatching!

Well, I candled one of my questionable eggs tonight, as I couldn't tell on day 10 if it was viable or not. Now that I have a strong LED flashlight, I was able to see movement in the shell! So, out of 10 eggs (8 bought via BYC auction, 2 mutts) I have 4 viable eggs! I'm very excited, and have now decided to move my cub scout den meeting to my house this Saturday, so the boys can see the chicks...and

hopefully even one hatching!

I am so confused about which March Hatching Post I am on! If April has more than one thread going I am unplugging my incubator on March 31st. I really mean it. I'll do it. You just wait and see. Maybe I'll wait till the next day.

April Fools!

Anyway, I am sticking with this official March Hatching thread. The other ones will just have to carry-on without me.

So here's the deal:

I have 3 out of 3 viable Salmon Faverolle eggs from pasofinofarms. They are already sold. If any hatch they are going to the person buying my Salmon Faverolle pair. BooHoo, but that's another story.

I have 4 out of 4 viable Golden Copper Marans eggs from pasofinofarms. I hope I get at least one pullet out of the group. My last hatch I was 0/6 on GCMs! Not a single one hatched. I started with 6 and had three going into lockdown. These eggs are due to hatch on March 10th.

Now for the insanity.

I set four Icelandic eggs each two days apart! So I should have one egg hatching each day on the 15th, 17th, 19th, and 20th! I was so afraid to let these eggs sit while I collected them. I did not know the laying habits of these hens and didn't want to risk the eggs. I should be able to pull it off with the two Brinseas going. The good news is that the two earliest Icelandic eggs look good. The one laid on 2/22 has nice veining and an eye barely visible on the opposite side in this picture:

Just a drop of organic green dye in the 2 liter bottle of water I keep near the incubator.
It'll stain the Styrofoam over time but, so does the chick poo.

I candled my eggs under the broody and all 6 seem to be developing.
