So do you know how that works? I would be interested in knowing. I'm having a great hatch and my temp stayed at a steading 99.5 and 31 to 35% humidity the whole time never had to open and didnt need to add water (and didnt candle till day 18) My kids started hatching on day 19 and today is day 20, have 6 out and most of the rest are pipping. This is the first good hatch I've had since Oct.
1] Congratulations mstricer, on your chicks and "first good hatch"
I am with you there. I was supposed to have 2 chicks hatch Friday from a friends eggs - nothing happened
I think they probably died in the shell. They appeared to be normally developing at days 10 and 18. They have until tomorrow and then it's eggtopsy time.
2] Jen4, I think research will tell you that the hen determines the sex of the chick. Temp can cause early [too warm] or late [too cool] hatches, but cannot have an effect on gender. There is a good explanation here somewhere in the forum.
I have spent the weekend trying to regulate the temperature on an LG incubator, and am about to tear out my hair!!
Someone mentioned they attached a knob to the temp regulator - hope they read this and tell me what they used. Once I have the temp holding, I will try to regulate humidity. Have to say, I may have to try the 'dry incubation method' with this one!
Tomorrow I do day 7 candling [yes, I know, I said 'never again before day 10, what can I say
- I wanna' see veining
] on 36 'test' eggs and on 10 Speckled Sussex. This will be a "traveling Hatch" [Start in TN day 1 of lockdown, trave to MD - to the Sussex's new home on the 2nd day]
so I will need all the good luck/wishes I can garner.
Best hatching luck to everyone.
My next hatch is due March 23. I will maybe be setting some eggs Wednesday or Thursday of this week, if they come, then more the end of the month, depending on this 'test hatch'. Guess that means I will be in the April-Hatchalong too, Save the Faves [am I the first to sign on for that?

OOPS! sorry STF, had a brain-burp!
