Hello! I’m looking for some insight. I noticed one of my chickens acting slow a couple days ago - she was walking as if she had water belly, but I checked her over and she does not - then yesterday one of my turkeys attacked her (most likely because she was showing signs of weakness). Now she will not stand or walk. Prior to this incident, she wasn’t having any trouble walking and didn’t seem to have balance issues. Now when I move her legs, they feel limp.

A similar thing happened to another chicken that was raised with her (both were purchased as chicks from TSC). The other chicken had to be euthanized (by a vet) as our turkey completely scalped her, and it significantly hindered her progress.

Please note: I do NOT allow my chickens to be hurt. When this chicken was attacked, it happened overnight; one of the turkeys had snuck in the coop, and I forgot to take her out (100% my mistake). The chicken that’s wounded now was mostly fine the day before (zero mobility issues), so I was not expecting her to come to any harm. The turkey attacked her during the day. She is now separated, as was the other chicken.

Chicken 1 started having balance issues after getting sour crop. I stopped treatment when I thought she was better and then she stopped being able to walk. I tried Corid with her, and she regained some movement in her legs, but after the attack, she lost motivation.

Does this sound like Marek’s? The sudden loss of mobility in Chicken 2 is what’s concerning me. I understand it could be trauma affecting her, but one of our turkeys was attacked by a dog (no major injuries) and was still able to move around afterward.

I have reached out to a vet’s office about getting a PCR test, but I have yet to hear back.

TIA!
