My chicks hatched about a week ago and so far they have been living in a brooder in my classroom. I will be taking some of them home this week and others are going with a friend of mine. I had originally planned to forego any immunizations. However I am rethinking that plan and considering vaccinating for Mareks. I live very close to the State Fair Grounds and there are several other people in my area with chickens. With the disease being airborne I'm not sure I want to take the chance.
The problem is I know it is best to give it to the chicks when they are a day old but it is obviously too late for that. I want to give it to them as soon as possible. I would like to find a place in the area that supplies the vaccine but everyone I have spoken to from employees at feed stores to local vets look at me like they have never heard of such a thing. If the only way I can get it is through mail order then that is what I will have to do but I was wondering if there is anyone who knows of a place in or near Des Moines that has it.
