You've been lucky too! Some strains of Marek's disease are much worse than others, and some lines of chickens are more resistant to fatal outcomes. Good for you!
I doubt that I'd ever be that fortunate...

I have a 25 year old African Grey parrot. I take her to the Avian specialist vet, who charges me an arm and a leg to tell me that she is healthy every year. She runs a panel of tests to tell me that Dylan has all the "normal" bacteria in her gut. I do not want any new birds to give Dylan anything, so I will only order chicks. I want to inoculate the chicks with old litter from Dylan's cage, any immunity she has will pass to the new chicks. Some say, all in, all out. No mixed ages. This is the commercial plan.
Since I have no possibility of perfect cleanliness, and will not "All In, All Out", with my pets, I hope the older method of flock immunity will work for me, too.

Thanks for all the helpful information. We had another egg hatch this afternoon. I'll think about it and consider if I want to go through with the vaccine route or not over the next few days while the rest of the eggs hatch and then decide.
