Well... potentially closer to land.. in a way its a delay in a way its gonna happen sooner. IF we choose this land, it already has pretty much everything we need to have what we want, sans fencing, BUT, there are people living there... which could lead to more delays, i have no idea how long it will take them to move out, considering they are the ones selling it its not a matter of KICKING anyone out, just gotta wait. Also part of the land is currently rented to a family member, so until he gets tired of renting a place where no one but his dog lives, we have to put up with that and his massive amounts of junk. ::sigh:: I waffle, one minute thats the place, the next i want to look elsewhere.. but i want my farm!!
 
I'd visit a few more areas, I think once you find the right place you will KNOW immediately. The rental with the dog could be big trouble - dogs are usually the first predators to wipe out a flock. Their owners are the first to shrug it off and say "they were just chickens." You really don't want/need that.

Yeah, we are still looking, but that said, even though this isnt perfect, neither is our budget. Trying to find and develop a place with around 5 acres of ground with less than 30,000 is definitely far from ideal. Especially in ohio. Meh. We stayed up half the night discussing and figuring out the various pitfalls.. as for the dog, the good thing is Jerry (renter, and family member) had chickens at one time himself, so the dog is accustomed to them and not what killed jerrys chickens, it was a mink. That said also, jerrys coop was a joke and completely unsecured, not to mention most of the time his flock was free ranging with little supervision so i wasnt terribly surprised by its loss, though disappointed in MY loss of inexpensive free range eggs lol. We are still thinking like i said, though the first time i saw the place i did think "man i wish we had something like this" so hehe.
