Marketing claims

Thank you for pointing that out. For years I've been very scornful of those stupid cartons in the grocery store that advertise 'free range' eggs. What a scam. Just because your hens are in a barren yard, and crowded together, doesn't make them 'free range'. It makes me so mad that commercial producers get away with charging customers more for supposedly better treatment of the hens when they're torturing them just as badly.

BUT, I guess I have to thank those nasty commercial jerks, because they inspired me to get my own flock. And I get to cuddle and give treats to my girls on a daily basis while watching them scoot around happily in the lush grass of my back yard. Ah my happy place

Vegetarian chickens??

Hmm, maybe I should go try to pull that 2 1/2 foot snake out of the mouths of two of my Marans hens the next time I see that? Or spank them when they eat bugs or mice?? Naaah, I think I'll let them make up their own minds what they want to eat. As for the "vegetarian" feeds, do they tell you that most of the "plant protein" as they label it is Genetically Modified Soy?? I would rather feed the stuff without the soy thank you, give me animal products. Chickens are Omnivores!

I tell my customers they are free range chickens. Mine forage most everyday on just over an acre. The people that buy my eggs hear stories about the chickens all the time (their coworkers) so they know what they are getting.
