Maryland Poultry Swap & Farmer's Market **UPDATED w/ PICS pg.43**

I came early because I had just lost 16 chickens to a neighborhood dog and to keep from losing my mind I needed more chickens quickly. By 10:30am I had the bed of the truck and the backseat filled with chickens in cages and boxes. And, I'll probably be back for more at Gower's. I don't think I got enough bantams. Anyway, I had a wonderful time and my spirits are lifted. We spent the remainder of the weekend fortifying the chicken yard and coops. There are so many locks on the doors it's going to take me an extra 15 minutes to do all the feedings -- but the safety is worth the effort. Besides finding lots of new chicks to love I also fell in love with the minature and dwarf goats. There will be some of those in my future. I also met a man who sells minature donkeys. Unfortunately, I washed all the names and numbers of these lovely people. If anyone knowa who the sellers of the goats and donkeys are I would greatly appreciate receiving their names and numbers again.

Thanks to everyone who participated and made this such a wonderful experience. I'm really looking forward to another such event.

Ok,when and were is Growers? Is this a swap??? If so are the vendors NPIP?

I tried looking back through the posts, but either I am missing it, or it wasn't there.

Would anyone happen to know the very nice gentleman I bought my 4 blue magpie call ducklings from? He was at the end of the second row with his 2 sons (I think). He was almost right across from the end of the food area.

I was so excited about getting Call ducks that when I bought the first 2 I forgot to ask questions and then my son bought me the remaining 2 and I was so thrilled, I again forgot to ask anything! Duh!!!

Just curious where they came from (either the parents or if they were just hatched from shipped eggs). Thinking about looking for more eggs or ducklings, but didn't want to buy from the same breeder.

Thanks!!

A very nice guy. I would have to look through my paper work but I might find a first name.

If you could remember or find it that would be great! Wasn't sure if he posted in this thread about bringing them, or if he just contacted someone. Its not a real big deal or anything, so don't go to any trouble. Thanks

can anyone tell me who the people who set up at the end of the second row away from the buildings were. they arrived and set up late, around 10 am. the had barred rock and rir pullets. they had a small horse trailer with them that they brought their poultry in. anyways we bought three birds from them and now two of them are sick. i would like to ask them if the birds were vaccinated or tested prior to being offered for sale. i do not want to lose all 6 birds i bought, as these are our first birds.

thank you

gary

Gary, did you get my pm? bloody poo and lethargy but no respiratory issues like runny nose/watery eyes/rattled breathing is most likely cocciodosis (sp) which can be spread to other young birds but, adult birds are not susceptible. They need to be treated with sulmet or corrid asap as cocci can be fatal to young birds. Keep their litter clean as the organism is re-ingested through the fecal matter which spreads the sickness. I am so sorry to hear about your birds and please keep us posted as to their recovery. I have dealt with it before and, if you treat quickly, birds are very responsive to medication.

If anyone knows who Gary is talking about, please contact either one of us. They arrived late and I don't have any info on them and don't think I know who they are.
