MARYLAND THREAD!

Haha yeah, I have have a feeling six may turn into many more. Yeah I'm definitely interested in barred rocks. They are very pretty birds, and from what I've read, they are pretty docile birds. Any advice on where to get feed in SoMD? SS, Amish, TSC?
I like to buy from either Stoltzfus just out of Charlotte Hall or Stauffers down in Loveville. I find that as a rule their prices beat the "English" store prices. Also, at Stauffers you can ask for screenings and they will give you what they sweep off the floor when they bag their own feed. Sometimes the screenings look identical to the scratch they sell, sometimes it is a lot of waste with a cracked corn in it. Either way I throw it out to my birds and they love it (the junk will blow way). Nothing beats free treats for the birds.

Awesome. Yeah I was thinking about going to stauffers. I usually get feed for deer there. That's cool that they'll give you the screening for free. What type of feed do you get from them?

@TurnipTruck
Btw I'm assuming by what you said that stauffers make their own feed? Do you know what's in it? Like how much protein it contains for example? Also, do they sell starter feed?

I buy lots of my livestock feed at Stauffer. As far as I know, they do not make/bag any poultry feed at their mill other than scratch. I have asked. They do carry Blue Seal feeds, though. I buy the Backyard Basics for $12.50 per 50lbbag. Here's the Blue Seal website: http://blueseal.com/products/poultry/

Stauffer does make cattle feed - 100 lbs of their Beef 13 is about $14. Yes, $14 for ONE HUNDRED POUNDS of feed. You cannot beat the price.

They have LOTS of stuff beyond what is in their tiny store. Ask and check out the prices - they do usually beat TSC and Southern States by a mile!

@res is correct. They only make their own scratch as far as poultry feed goes. Blue Seal is what I get from them for poultry feed. I also use their Beef 13 mixed with some loose grain for my goats to get to the higher protein needed for goats.

I will have Black and Lavender Cuckoo Roosters about 25 Aug or sooner. The Blacks are older so I may have to get new homes for them sooner than that. Ordered from Heirloom Orpingtons. They can be easily picked up and handled. Organic feed and fresh fruits and veggies diet. Welcome to check them out. Near loveville auction.
