MARYLAND THREAD!

Checking into the Maryland thread. Montgomery county here. Our "The Garden Loft" Coop is under construction and our 10 chicks are on order from the Frederick Southern States. I've been waiting for this for three years, very excited to join in the chicken love!

I just looked it up. Very neat little coop.

What breeds did you get?

I love Southern States. That's where I get my feed from. I feed the meat maker pellets with oyster shell and grit on the side since I also have roosters and guineas.

Thanks! I started with the Garden Coop plans but realized quickly that I would want to go bigger.

White Leghorn

Rhode Island Red
Buff Orpington
Golden Laced Wyandotte
Welsummer (2)

I look forward to patronizing my more local SS, the turf center, for feed and other supplies. I went to Frederick for the chicks for variety of breeds.

My SS gets a lot of different breeds, but only 3 breeds at a time. I love my Easter Eggers (what SS is selling as Araucana). If I was only going to have one large fowl breed, that would be it.

I confess I wanted the widest variety of egg color possible, while keeping cold hardy and less broody tendencies. Plus I just want to experience the gamut!

Going to try one more time! Anyone interested in sharing an order of meat Muscovy from Freedom Ranger Hatchery? http://www.freedomrangerhatchery.com/

Hens are ready for butcher in 10 weeks and drakes 12 weeks. (Although I plan to order almost all drakes). They have a FCR of about 2.7 and are Grimaud Freres birds. http://www.grimaudfreres.com/en/

Personally, I am looking for about 8-12 Muscovy and will be driving up to the hatchery to pick them up personally so they do not have to endure shipping. I am in central MD (DC/Baltimore/Frederick area). The more we buy the cheaper they get.

You might want to say what area you are in since though Maryland is not the biggest state it isn't tiny either.

Good point, will modify my post. (I am in central Maryland- DC/Baltimore/Frederick- and will be driving up to the hatchery).
