OK Mdbucks.....I finally de-coded your PM's. That made sudoku look so easy. So i fixed it and sorry for the let down. I promise to have enough fun for both of us

The show was really cool. There were so many birds, that i if i could have chosen just one......i couldn't. I did see one pair in a sale cage and i felt so sorry for the girl. He was after her so bad, she had her head stuck through the cage trying to get her body out to get away from him. I just wanted to rescue her so bad. Whoever owned them should have really been there to do something about it. Or just not put them in cages together. I had this gender loyalty thing tearing at my heart. I have never been to a show and i really dont know what i should have done

But anyway....it was nice and the birds were all healthy and beautiful. I got to see alot of breeds in person that i hear about, see pictures of.....but neither do justice to the beauty of the breed. I was disappointed by one thing......I thought there would be more people there selling poultry stuff. There was a few tables but all the good stuff was for raffles. That would be good if you were going to be there all day. I thought it was neat to watch the judges doing their work. I saw one person there that looked familiar from the post of peoples pics......but i will have to go look to see who it was........I will report back if i find it.
Good luck with the baby and i hope to see pictures posted in the morning

My son and I went, too. I thought it was really interesting and a lot of fun. We bought a hen--a white-crested black Polish. We saw that breed when we first came in, and fell for them! I had expected we'd get something more traditional like a Barred Rock, but the new hen is so sweet. We're very happy with our choice.

Why were there so many more bantams than regular-sized chickens? Is that typical of a show? Or were there more regular-sized ones coming today?

Susan

dang, i wish i saw this post before now, i would have loved to have gone.

but springfield is 45 minutes away and we're in the middle of getting ready for next big nor'easter ...
plus i have oodles of work to do, oh well.

There are always more bantams. They are more a show bird since they have no
other purpose. Well, they do make a good squeeky toy for the dogs.

We almost went. Galaxie Man Pm'd me friday night. I didn't know about the
show until then. The Big E is 1.5 hours away. I'm sad to have missed to opportunity
to meet other BYCers.

He PM'd me too but we couldn't make it. Just too much of a drive with a 5 yo who didn't really want to go and a DH who had somewhere else he sort of needed to be. Maybe next year. I'm sure I would have come home with a car full of hens. I'm getting really eager for my spring chicks.....

That was fun! Looking forward to next year!

And more standard breeds and merchandise would have been good...and now I covet the Toulouse goose (poor DH) and the Sebastopols and every duck in attendance...
