Ive been having a coon problem it seems. Last week I had forgotten to close their coop door for the night. Because of my laziness I lost two of my six chickens. I was angry and upset. I thought I knew how he had gotten in so I fixed the problem..So the 8th was my birthday and I started my morning out as I normally do.

Checking my Facebook and emails before suiting up to go outside. Dealing with the ice I slipped my way down to the chicken coop where I heard one of the girls making a horrible noise. Rushing as fast as I dare over the ice I ripped open the door only to watch a coon bite the head off the screaming birds neck. I screamed in horror as I ran at the beast, scaring it and chasing it away.

Coming back I found just destruction. Feathers everywhere and my four remaining chickens dead. I'm beyond upset, bawling in the middle of the coop holding a headless, thrashing bird as I make sure the others are dispatched and not suffering. I dont know what to do. I dont have the means to buy a bunch of new birds and I'm limited to where I can drive due to a gas guzzling vehicle. Now I'm stuck with no birds and a broken heart. Happy birthday to me.

You can wait till spring to get new birds, you will be able to find them at feed stores all over the place. Try to figure out how the coon has been getting in. I had a coon attack a few days ago, it killed 3 hens and a buck rabbit. I still have no idea how it got in and I guess it does not know either, I set a trap in the run for it and put eggs out in the run for free grabs to see if he has entered again and he has not, been around 5 days. I am locking the birds up in the coop at night to prevent attacks for now.

I'm pretty sure I know exactly how the shit got into my coop. Prolly through the ventalation slots
That is unfortunate. You could put hardware cloth over the ventilation slots. While you have all these dead birds and cold temps it might be a good idea to keep a few in the run and do some testing, block something off and see if he still comes in to feed that night.

If every raccoon was taken off the face of the planet I would still hate them. I've actually had them attack full grown geese here.
Where are you located? I'm in northwest pa and could hook you up with some chicks in the spring to help out. So sorry you have to deal with this, I hate those b!@#$rds with a passion.

I'm located in mid Michigan but thank you for the thoughts. I'm gonna order through a hatchery once I have my coop secured better
