massacre

Is it just me or is that I really odd suggestion? Sounds very specific and unlikely unless you see the seen and it looks that way.

Anyhow, sorry for your loss. I know how attached we were and how hard it was to lose some of our chicks, and that was only the first week we got them!

Any chance your dog could have gotten hold of them?

Well she only said it because she said that she knew a group of guys who thought it was funny to go around to peoples houses and kill their chickens, with small pellet guns or they would kick them...i know its so morbid but I believe it, I have seen people throw bricks and large objects into streets waiting for the "stupid" driver to run over it and mess their car up.... It is possible but since others have said it looks similar to their dog attacks, I will just assume my dog did it...

Sorry for your losses.

I agree, sounds like fido liked playing with new squeeky toys, when they stopped squeaking he found another...typical dog attack.

A thought for your chick, if you can't find additional ones same age/size in the soon time....take the lowest ranked pullet from your older group and move her to where your chick is staying. It will mess up the pecking order even though there might be a few squabbles at first, should resolve quickly. If you put your chick in with flock, since there is an established pecking order and the territory is set, I don't think your chick would last half a day in that environment.

Good luck

That's really horrible someone would do that. I cannot imagine someone killing little helpless chickens for fun. Sounds like a good way to get shot, trespassing on someone's property and killing their pets/livestock. Not to mention with pellet guns someone might mistake for a real gun.

Glad there was some rational behind why she suggested something like that. I was slightly worried it sounded too specific and that she knew a bit too much of what happened but clearly that isn't the case.

It was just a 4X4 box basically, 3' high. I am in the city in phx so weasels and things like that we do not have, coyotes in some parts, but not here where I am at. The only thing we have a plethora of is stray cats! but with my dog they never come into our backyard, just the front, and I know they are there cuz I can smell all there poop they leave behind. dang things.

Most of the time my border collie is wonderful, but......for some reason every
3 years or so he tears up a pillow. He is twelve now. It's very easy to believe
just because your dog has been good for long periods of time he always will be.

My lab is a really sound sleeper. He's 8 years old, so maybe his hearing isn't what it used to be, either. What I'm trying to get at is, maybe it was something else and he slept through it? Is there any way for another dog to get into your backyard? I suppose he'd have to be a VERY sound sleeper if he didn't hear anything.... I guess I'm always one to give the dog the benefit of the doubt...

I do really want to give him the benefit of the doubt he has always been so good. But there isnt a way another dog could get in, 6' cinder block fence all around yard except for gate which was locked...and I would have heard the barking if another dog or cat made its way into our yard....
