Massacure last night

Thx for all the advice there has been coyote sightings recently in the near area what ever it was was smart i know at my coop in particular by the tracks the animal came in my yard through a ditch that allows water to flow of my property allowint it not to be seen. Then it stocked around my yard serveral times finally finding a weakness in the wire where it made its way in. My first thought was a dog but would they be that smart?
What predator did was not an indication of smarts. It was an indication predator had time to do its killing, the killed had little or no cover / protection, and predator was not obstructed by fencing or other dogs from getting from getting to different kill sites. It is also an indication that either you are directly aware of where predator called or have good communication with other fowl keepers.

Yes, they can be very clever, that's why they are so successful..it does look more like a coyote than dog, by the way the toes are paired and stepped down equally on both side-but one track is hard to tell, next time put a coin next to it! Please. It may use that track often to slip by, they can be hard to spot.

I dont know if the tracks are still there if it is i will take more pics tommorow. Hmm in comparsion i have a husky dog and the footprints are about the size of that...and no its not him he was in the house all night sure do wish i had him left out though that drake had 100 percent fertility on all eggs i have hatched sure gonna miss him.

Actually most of the animals were in well secured yards and mine personally get locked up at night inside everynight. The drake was outside because i had ducklings hatch that day it was bad luck cause it was the only time he has ever been outside. My yard only consisted of chickenwire easily breakable by bigger predators such as dogs and coyotes but it was never a concern since i live in a fairly populated part of the neibourhood. Im not stranger to predators but this is the first loss in quite sometime its just disheartening i put alot of effort into obtaining this birds just to lose them to a senseless kill.

I don't agree with the coyote theory. I hunt coyotes and have an issue with them here. They never really just kill to kill. Also if it's a coyote they usually take off with the entire animal. They NEVER leave it. They are typically hunting for food always. So you won't find bodies. This is a house dog and surely domesticated. Killing if it runs mentality. I'd look at neighbors not keeping a male dog inside at night. Over 60 Lbs.

The picture of the track is a Coyote, no question about it.
X2 fore sure, I hunt coyote

i'd like to see the size of the track, because I'm concerned about how heavy and large it appears...well fed and big, that ground doesn't look all that soft. It must have been slipping by you for a while, they sure know how to sneak! So when drake was out he went for it. That's too bad, sorry for you, I hope you have some of his fertile eggs.
