Last June I left town and many of my girls went broody. I left 2 sit on eggs which snowballed into 5 or 6. Hatched out maybe 10, gifted several away. Went through a molt afterwards I believe. Egg production dropped substantially. I had been getting 8-14/day with 15 girls.
Now I’m up to 20 girls (5 new this year) 5 new drakes. Eggs are stumbling around 3-4/day. Mixed flock. Cayuga, Lots of Welsh H, Saxony, and 300-layers all 1-3 yrs old.
Duck food is purina duck pellets, brewers yeast and some egg booster w Omega in there.
My food bill is 3x what it was with only 7 more ducks? They free range in daytime on 1/4 acre elec pen and cooped at night in a 6x8 Secure coop.
been told I feed them too much or too much protein (16%). Peas every other day. It’s just bazaar! No egg eaters. going to sell off half or more of my flock if it doesn’t improve.
Ive used a light at night but saw little diff if any. Not hiding them, just not laying them!
