If different sexes in different pens, I think a 3 ft. high solid wall would be a good idea.

When pens share a side, we use OSB/Chip board cut in half length-wise, which is two feet in length, and the frames are off the ground say six or so inches. You can see the effect below.

I have found hanging a run of shade cloth on the fence provides a barrier that allows air flow.

Brilliant!! That makes me realize that shade cloth might have a lot of utility for me, where we are usually too hot rather than too cold. It would also provide a visual barrier for predators, which I find is a big part of the battle of keeping them at bay.
