How big to make your coop and run may depend on your climate...
...and how weather proof your run is.
Here I have 6-8sqft per bird in coop, because winter can be rough and my run is not weather proof.

Also in the summer, a larger area is better , if they are all crammed in there on the roost, it will be hotter. Silly me, I got mine an air conditioner.

I have spent the past half hour trying to figure out how large I need to build our new coop in order to give our 15 hens 4 square feet each. I have dyscalculia so that makes it hard, I know it's a fairly simple math problem.

*hugs* from a fellow dyscalcula sufferer.

One of my coping strategies is to use graph paper or the kids' Legos to lay things out physically so that I can see the size and numbers I need to manipulate.

4-8 foot per bird. Go big as you can. If you have issues with regular math, chicken math is going to be fun.
