So I started out last September with 12 chicks, who are now giving me fresh eggs daily.

Went to TSC for some supplies and brought home 4 Mallards.

Decided that I needed some Khaki Campbells and Pekins. Picked up 10 from the post office yesterday and also received 4 little roos as packing peanuts.....so that brings me to 30!

Now hubby is saying we should get some Guinea Fowl. HOLY MOLY - What have I gotten myself into?

Sounds normal to me. Its just the way it is.I started with 10 RIR pullets. I told everybody nope I'm not getting a Roo.Buddy comes over has a roo that looks just like my pullets. Bam I now have a roo. Nope not gonna get a bator & raise chicks. Brown truck drives up drops off a brand new bator. Bam I collect 48 eggs fill up the bator & hatch 30 new chicks to go in my 2nd coop. Bam I'm sitting here right now with chicks hatching as I type. Bam I'm going to some peoples house Monday to pick up 80 quail eggs so I can fill my new quail pen. Do you want to hear more. I never was good at math. But chicken math its easy.

Started with 6 chicks and now have 19 chickens, 8 ducks and 1 goose. Blast that chicken math!

I have a mixed flock of RIRs, australorps, Easter eggers and barred rocks. I was getting 7-8 eggs a day which was plenty for friends and family, but recently a chef friend lamented that a trendy breakfast joint was hoarding all the local eggs and voila, an order to McMurray occurred less than a week later. 28 rainbow layers arrived and I promptly built a $700 addition to our chicken run with 16 nesting boxes, a roost and electricity for heated water and heat lamps! My husband is an accountant and has calculated that we need to charge about $10 an egg to ever "recoop" (lol) our expenses. Chicken math is near and dear to my heart and I completely understand the need for professional help! Best of luck with your peeps.

I started with 2 chicks 19 years ago. Sometimes, I have over 50 chickens. Then I get tired of the work and sell/give away some.

As an example, 3 weeks ago I sold 8 hens. Whew, that's easier now. Ahem..... a week later I had DH pick up 6 birds in FL since he was down there anyway....

Current status is 23 chickens, 4 ducks. And I am avoiding TSC like the plague!

I should add that 9 of those 23 are roosters!

Well here I go again......went down to the coop to collect the eggs and got 11/12. Guess I should've gotten more chickens if I wanted a dozen a day to sell. Silly newbie me thought, "12 chickens=12 eggs" Hasn't happened yet! Since I have these 4 roos that came with the ducks, I'm thinking maybe I should call TSC and see if they got any more chicks in so I can up my hens and at least get 12 per day.

If I were you I'd call Brinsea & get an incubator. Then get a roo for your flock. Build another coop & start another flock. Bam two dozen eggs a day. I told you that I'm good at this new math it's so easy you don't even need a calculator.

I am too afraid to incubate and hatch....I'd much rather buy them. I only just started last fall and this is all new to me. My "coop" now is actually two horse stalls that I took the dividing wall out of (so it's about 14' x 28') and there is an attached ring for their run. I have plenty of room to add more chickens.

Just looked on CL and there's a woman that got too many BSL pullets in her order. Sent her a message.....we'll see!
