Friends of mine went out of town for the new year and I watched their birds. They have embdens that hatched in July. My buffs were hatched in April. Today I saw their embdens mating. Mine haven't started yet. I thought that this is a little early for mating in Northern Indiana. Maybe the embdens mature faster than buffs.

I'm in western NC and not seeing any mating yet from my Embden gander and Toulouse goose. Seems a little young doesn't it?

That is what I thought. I was expecting mine to wait till February. I thought that 6 month old geese mating in Northern Indiana on January 1st was very early and young. This is my first year with geese so I am learning a lot. I don't see mating here I just see a very protective gander who doesn't want his goose getting very far from him.

I've read that some people's geese start in January. But you may be right, Flockman, maybe Emdens mature faster
