I have had my button quail about 4 weeks and figure they are about 12-14 weeks, not sure. Anyway, I saw something this morning I have not seen before. The male started to do a low growl and semi-squat and kept peck and chasing the female behind the log and plants I set up. Anyone familiar with this. I have not raised button quail since 1995 and don't remember if this is a mating display.
Thanks for any assistance

Mmm.. Well. I think it is a mating display. I've seen one of my males do the same thing. The females don't seem to appreciate it though and do what they can to escape. Actually, are you sure it's the male doing the growling noise? Sometimes I think it is, and realize it's actually the female trying to tell him to stay away.. Anyway, usually he calms down within less than half an hour and all is back to normal. Not sure what it's about.

I checked them both and they are male and female. The display did stop after about an hour and it looks like things are back to normal. He is dark with a red breast and she is fawn. Both are nice colors. I really appreciate your comment. Thanks.
