Stoney Meadow Maple
Crowing
So our drake seems to have figured out what to do with the ladies, he favors the Pekins, occasionally a Rouen, he’s left the runners largely alone. When he does the deed, it doesn’t look pleasant but he’s not tearing out feathers Or anything and the whole interchange lasts about 15, maybe 20 seconds.
Is this just a learning curve or is this the real deal? If so does that mean we have a fairly gentle drake? Is this because he has no competition and learned from no one but nature?
I hear about drowned ducks, feathers torn out, bleeding, and so far nothing like that is happening here.
Occasionally you will see 3 runners on top of each other, but as they are the same size and all hens I think they are confused but it seems harmless enough.
Thoughts?
