Hi everyone! I have some duck mating questions.. I have 2 pekins, a male and a female, who are both 6 months old. My female just starred laying eggs a couple weeks ago. Its been friggin freezing where i live so theyve been contained to the coop with just their waterer as far as water goes. Today it warmed up and is 40+ outside so i filled up the pool for them and let them out. They were having a blast for a bit, then after a while they were obviously trying to mate, unsuccessfully. He was pecking at her neck and trying to climb on top of her and she was flattening out for him but he could not seem to make his way up there. I assume its normal for it to take a few tries for him to get it right??

Ducks mating can be awkward and the male isn't always successful. When he is, it's like he's latched on to the female briefly and will usually be biting onto the neck to hang on as well and eventually he will fall off and they will go about the swimming and preening as if nothing happened.
