May 2, 2009 Cocke County TN, APA ABA Sanctioned Show

This is so true here in my part of VA too!!

It must have something to do with hills/mtns.... at least e. tn. isn't the only one to have crazy weather (or no weather, lol!))

Man by the way this sounds I wonder if there will be any chicks left by the time we get there.

So I guess all the selling is in the parking lot and the show is inside.

BTW I am coming up Newport Hwy (321) as I live right off of it. So the show is 20 mins from us here at the house.

Yes, something is up with the weather also. This weather that we now get in TN is what South Fl use to get when I was growing up some 40 years ago. The weather patterns have moved North. This year they also all reset to that time in that the season all started early instead of late this year by two months.

I am thinking there must have been something wrong with the little chick besides just a pecked beak. . . and man did it have some muffs and a beard ! One of my bosses gave me 3 guinea keets today lol

sooo those are very cute right now but they will be totally free range once they grow up . . . where as my chickens will get free range time but keep them in their secure run when i'm not home and at night for safety reasons

It's a poultry show, with exhibitors setting up outside to sell surplus stock. Some of the birds are just eye candy. Lots are roosters. Almost all I saw there last year were very healthy and well tended.

I've never been shopping for chickens at a flea market. You might find more standard layers there. But it might be worth stopping by the show on your way to the market, just to check out what's available.

Yes, this is correct.

I spent the first 12 years of my life in Miama, FL. I consider TN to be a lot drier, especially lately. We're having a weird spring this year, for sure.
When I first moved to TN in the early 80's (after a 6 yr 'lay-over' in GA) an elderly man told me this was East TN, and "If you don't like the weather, just give it a minute." And then he laughed hysterically. I thought it was cute at the time.
I've come to realize he was a very wise man and I think of him often! The only time he was wrong was during periods of drought.

HEY YA'LL! CHANGE OF VEHICLES FOR ME!!!

Seems DH will be able to come with me, so we'll be in a blue Ford Freestar van Saturday morning. (DD2 is riding to her soccer game with a friend.)

Having the van is good! Having DH with me is a mixed blessing. There will be someone to watch the birds when I need a restroom or refreshment run, but there will also be someone to restrain me should I see a cute chick that I need to adopt.
I suspect he's thought about the cute chick thing, and that's why he's spending the day with me

Oh, good idea telling the vehicle type. One of my nephews is apparently coming in for the weekend so I suspect he will be coming with my mother and myself since he enjoys my chickens almost as much as I do

He is only 9 but tall and longer red hair.

If it is just the 3 of us we will come in my black Mazda Tribute. Stands out in a crowd since i have 2 tribal pattern doberman stickers on the rear side windows and on the back I have 2 standing doberman metallic decals

That being said my father, who says he doesn't like chickens, just the noises roosters make (but am skeptical), might have decided he doesn't like being left out on a trip . . . . and he may be coming too. If he comes we might be in a silver toyota camry thing, or whatever mom's car is . . .

I am tall, with long dark hair, may have it pulled up tomorrow tho, and will wear jeans and a doberman shirt since I have no BYC shirt

Can't wait !!!!!!!!! See everyone tomorrow !!!!!!!

And yes, I am bringing boxes ! Just in case . . . . . . .if I have them then i prob wont buy anything . . but if i dont have them I will need them . . . .see, brilliant logical reasoning

I'll be in either a burgandy ford expedition, or a black f150 truck.
I'll be bringing umbrellas, a tarp, folding chairs, extra food, water, and bedding, etc. I remember seeing a really good show checklist that I can't find right now.

I have a new dilemma, Wed. and yesterday I had super busy days and barely had the time to feed the chickens, much less bathe them, so i had been putting it off until 2day, well now today I find out I won't be home until 10:00, 12:30 if I decide to be nice and help the church with a lock in, So my birds will be un-bathed

although I'm not too worried about that affecting them; they've decided to stay very clean recently (now watch me go home to find them covered in dirt

) oh well it's ot about winning, but participating!

Well, it is downspours like it did this morning umbrellas will be a good thing.

Roosters for me are a good thing for i have an all pullets order coming in and need roos. Do not think i will get lucky in finding my breed but one can hope.

I am going to have DH do a driveby today so in case he does not want to come I know where they heck I am going.

See you all tomorrow.
