Yeah, I do that once in a while to give my husband hope:-D I have two styrofoam ones here, one with my neighbor , one reptipro and a cabinet that hasn't been off since I plugged it in.

How do you all do it?

I just got a sportsman and I cannot fill it with my measly 9 hens, of which 3 are broody. I guess I could go to the auction and buy several doz eggs, just to say that I have had it filled once.

It is so bad, at one point I had 1 egg in it. (an egg with wax on it that had been under a broody)

I use my homemade incubator as a hatcher, and right before I bought the sportsman I had made another one out of a small wine chiller. It was used for 2 hatches, and now it sits. I should probably sell it, but I have about $80.00 tied up in it (shhhh don't tell hubbie

) and I doubt that I would even come close to that if I tried to sell it.

When my silkies were doing their little "lay one or two eggs" then quit, I would wait up to 10 days to set my eggs --- but those were not shipped & I still had great hatches. Actually set some of our BSL eggs that were 2 weeks old! Good hatch too!

I have around 200 in mine now, and if I do not use turners, I think it would hold over 400. I do not want to hand turn that many though

Just think......you will need it next spring if you keep hatching eggs! Especially if you have chicks now that need to grow! I use my LG stryo as a hatcher, but they seem to not want to come out! So I been using baskets in the bottom of my Thelco. Only thing is......gotta watch so they do not dry out too quick!

AND.........not all are always good once they are shipped. I have had tons of completely ruptured air cells this year, and some that the yolk was scrambled.

AND.........an early 10-day candling today shows over 2 dozen with NO development at all.

Sent out 2 more shippments today to renegaderidgefarm and quailladyoffortmyers. Will send out my last one most likly tommorow if not later today lol havn't checked my pens yet for shellyga.

Also got eggs so far from chickychickbaby, TennesseeTruly, and Soggy Bottom Farm. Just leaves me needing to send one more and recieve one more from someone

I would just keep the extra bator never know when you will need it. I like swaps more and more. I feel less bad when all I have into eggs that dont hatch or very few hatch is shipping. If I get a great hatch it all make up for it.

I have an old redwood Leahy that holds 600 eggs, 2 LG's and a Hovabator. My 2 LG's are turned off. I'm using my Hovabator as a hatcher and I have my Leahy going. I haven't told hubby but I haven't turned off an incubator since April 2010. So I've decided to give him a break. August 1st is my cut off date. No more eggs after that. I don't want any brooders over winter and he's been so good that I don't want to give him any more grief.

His mantra lately has been, "Is there ever going to be a time when there aren't going to be any more eggs coming in the mail?"

BTW, I got my eggs from ChickyChickyBaby today my hubby just told me. LOL
