That's a good idea, I'd never have thought of that. Of course, I hate suspense, so I would look

I like to keep guessing until they hatch, I only have a few breeds of chickens, and can 'usually' tell them at hatch as to what breed. So if it's one that looks like something I have, then I keep it. If not, it goes bye-bye

I've had swappers in the past that sent me scovy duck eggs, they just wrote on the egg '35 days'. Or for things like seramas--'19 days'; other ducks '28 days'...etc. etc.

I never again want to get scovy eggs, I got at least 20 last year, paid probably twice that for them, and had none hatch. Of course afterwards I learned that scovies are pretty hard to hatch....leave it to me to pick something difficult...I just thought it was a quick way to make a buck

Someone said to put other eggs in to hatch at the same time, this will increase your hatch rate. I'm going to give it a shot eventually. I should also soon have silkie eggs coming in the mail to help me brood. If I can afford to, I'd like to get some ducklings or even a trio at the livestock auction, then hatch out new breeders to raise over the winter. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening (being able to afford them, lol). That's why I don't want to BUY eggs, I can't afford to buy them, let alone have them not hatch in the end.

I've heard that they do better if they are under a hen (chicken, duck, whatever) for at least part of the incubation. The ones I had got into the 4th week and quit.

First off, scovies are ducks, not geese. I've hatched goose eggs in an incubator, I've not hatched 1 scovy egg, they all quit. Though, most all my goose eggs quit in the bators this year, the only consolation I have is that no one in my area is having any luck hatching geese!

Sorry guess I should have read my post before hitting submit. I know a scovy is a duck but someone told me that hatching Sebbie eggs was comparible to scovys in that they quit often. I have never hatched either. I am getting ready to do 2 Sebbie eggs.

I don't know about sebbies, I have only heard that they are very hard to hatch. Typically, a 'good' hatch from your own sebbies is 50%, add in the 50% 'good' hatch on shipped eggs rate, and I wouldn't even bother getting sebbie eggs shipped.

I figured you knew that scovies weren't geese, but you never know...just wanted to be clear
