MAY HATCH-A-LONG come join in

Day 14, but feels like FOREVER!!! I don't know if I'm gonna make it!

I am going into lockdown tomorrow with 6 australorp and 6 EE`s. (well maybe 5) Really excited about the EE`s because it is always a mystery how they will come out. I did a candle at day 10 after we experienced a 3 hour power outage and temp dropped to 74 in the bator...think there was one early quitter (I left it in til lockdown just in case because I find the EE`s hard to see)..but the rest seemed to have survived the outage....hopefully. Has been a challenge this hatch with our turner quitting on day 8 (only used it for 2 hatches!) and then the power outage.
Hoping for the best and I wish the same to each of you!

Congrats to those with pips & chicks! I have two pips and a partial zip. I just have to share a small victory that I had this morning. When I got up I saw two pips right away in 2 of the EE eggs. Upon further inspections of the eggs (you know, the inspection with your nose squished against the incubator window for 5 minutes

) I saw a hole in one of my cochin/fav eggs - on the bottom

. At first I thought that it might be dead already, but then I saw movement and it began to cheep loudly. Now, I have sworn that I will absolutely not open the bator this time and I am determined not to, but of course my brain began to work to figure out how I could keep this chick from drowning or smothering (I have the eggs in cartons) before it could get itself out of the shell. Soooo . . . off to get a wire coat hanger and the trusty roll of duct tape. Believe it or not, by wrapping the curved end of the coat hanger with duct tape, sticky side out, and slipping the coat hanger into the incubator through a vent, I was actually able to flip the egg up onto its side on top of the egg carton! It is even positioned so that it won't interfere with any of the surrounding eggs hatching! Now, I realize that this chick may still not make it, but at least I have done all that I can for it - without endangering any of the other eggs.

I kind of felt like I had locked myself out of my truck as I was finagling that coat hanger around inside the incubator trying to get the angle right

Anyway, stay tuned for the next exciting episode . . . maybe I should buy a lottery ticket today.
