My first chick is out in the Brinsea!!! :celebrate Not a very clear photo, but had to use the tablet to take it, too excited to go get the camera. These are my Wheaten/Blue Wheaten hatching eggs I bought. Two more are obviously pipping. I knew when I heard the cheeping yesterday that someone was ready to come out. Humidity may be an issue, but I did get that thin tubing to slide through the tiny vent in the top so I don't have to open it. I am so excited! My first Wheatens. :yiipchick
Congrats!!!!:jumpy

Well, we are at day 21 proper. I have three eggs left in the 'bator and took out the 11 fluffies and put them into the brooder. One egg is actively pipping, one has a pip but looks like it may have stopped/be malpositioned, and nothing on the third egg...humidity is good. I am happy they are finally out! This was the most stressful hatch I have ever had. These are my very first valuable, purchased eggs and I didn't really know what to expect. I think I will be more confident now with hatching shipped eggs. I could not have done it without all the great help here on BYC.
Thanks everyone!

My first batch of coturnix eggs are going into lockdown tomorrow!

compared to turkey eggs it feels like I just put them in the incubator

We used to raise these, too...a VERY long time ago, at UC Davis. They are FAST. Good luck with your hatch, and please post photos if you can.

Hey guys, I'm super nervous here. My eggs went on lockdown yesterday. Temp stays between 100 and 104 with the humidity at 64. Is this good? I was hoping to have the humidity get between 65 and 70 but to do that I would have to open it and add more water. I now realize the importance of a separate hatcher, but this is my first time so I'm doing my best. Because this is my first time, and I'm using a homemade incubator that I made myself I don't think they will all hatch. I have 12 rainbow eggs in there, one or two of them are not fertile.

Hang in there! Lots of great experienced people on here to help.
I am just starting with decent incubators, and had never used a hatcher before, but I have had my hatch rates go up from all the advice on BYC.
104 is high, but depends on your thermometers, what level they are at, where in the 'bator they are located. With a homemade incubator, lots of variables, depending on design.
Somebody with lots more experience please chime in here!
And...STAY POSITIVE.

I only have the digital thermostat that tells temp and humidity. It it at the bottom farthest from the heat source. I had been rotating my eyes around when I turn them before lockdown. I am hoping for at least 6 out of 10 fuzzy babies by wednesday.
