May the Fourth be with you!

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a Mexican civic holiday held on May 5 that commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.[2][3] It is celebrated primarily in the state of Puebla and in the United States.[4][5][6][7] While Cinco de Mayo sees limited significance in Mexico itself, the date is observed nationwide mostly in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.[8] Mexicans and Latinos living in California during the American Civil War are credited with being the first to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in the United States.[9] [10] Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day,[11] the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.

Mexico's Independence day is September 16

I've been in Mexico on May 5th of several different years and never saw any signs of celebration. Mexico City does have a huge 4th of July celebration though. The sky was lit up with fireworks and mariachis filled the streets.

Haha I love this quote! Tomorrow I will pray before eating my famous flan and salsa chicken (salsa chicken is a recipe invented by me, I'm going to post it up on here as soon as I figure out what kind of salsa works best. It's a favorite of the fam, though)

Cinco De Mayo IS NOT Mexico's Independence day

Sorry I misquoted, yes I know it is not Mexican Independence day....I was being flip because I really dont care. I know that diez y sies de septiembre is the official independence day of mexico. I love Mexican history, just not anything that has happened there in the last 200 years...

I was more concerned about it being...May the 4th be with you. But I did eat some mexican food yesterday if that makes anybody feel better......it was tasty. I will have some salsa tomorrow I think.
